Emma & Addison’s Romantic Wedding at The Cotton Room in Durham, NC
As a Raleigh wedding photographer, I always love capturing celebrations in the RDU. The Cotton Room—one of the most iconic North Carolina wedding venues in Durham, NC is no exception! With its soaring windows, exposed brick walls, and industrial charm, it’s the perfect backdrop for a timeless and elegant celebration. Emma and Addison’s wedding day was filled with heartfelt moments, stunning details (just wait till you see her bouquet!), and so much joy—it was truly a dream to photograph.
From the moment I met these two, their love for each other was so evident, the way the giggled and enjoyed each other so organically translated beautifully throughout their wedding day. Every detail was thoughtful and elegant, creating an atmosphere that was warm, welcoming, and uniquely theirs.
Getting Ready & First Look
Emma looked absolutely radiant in her gown from a&bé Bridal Shop in Cary, NC—a dress that perfectly balanced modern detail with classic elegance. The floral lace motif was the highlight of her gown! I truly couldn't take my eyes off of it. Her hair and makeup by Delight NC gave her a fresh, natural glow that highlighted her timeless beauty. Simple & bridal. Addison looked sharp in a classic black suit with a blue floral tie complete with constellation socks, a fun hidden surprise.
That quiet moment before the ceremony, tucked away inside the Cotton Room’s brick-lined corridors, was filled with emotion as they anticipated their first look together. Their reactions to seeing each other for the first time were some of my favorite moments of the day! The pure joy in Addison's face is a reaction I remember to this day. It's the kind of reaction you always hope a groom will have when he sees his bride for the first time! He also had a note for Emma, which the emotions on her face revealed that his sweet gesture was unexpected.
The Ceremony
The ceremony space was breathtaking. VIIVI Floral Studio transformed the aisle and altar with lush arrangements of white, cream, and soft green blooms, accented by delicate touches of blue. The florals framed Emma and Addison beautifully as they exchanged vows in front of their family and closest friends. The natural light poured in through the tall windows, creating an ethereal glow that matched the emotions of the moment.
It’s so important to me to capture not only the couple, but also their parents and grandparents—such a meaningful part of every wedding day. These photographs become treasures, preserving the love and support of family for years to come. One of the most touching moments was when both the bride’s and groom’s mothers read scripture, filling the ceremony with a deeply personal, faith-filled spirit. And in a lighter moment just before the vows, Emma’s veil slipped out—her sister and maid of honor quickly came to the rescue, sparking laughter and sweet glances. After their first kiss, as they walked back down the aisle, they shared the most perfect dip kiss! And I've seen many dip kisses, this was one for the books!
Another reason I value having a second shooter is that it allows us to capture moments happening beyond the main spotlight. During Emma and Addison’s ceremony, my second shooter was able to photograph a sweet, private hug between the two of them right after they stepped away from the ceremony space—a fleeting but meaningful memory they’ll treasure forever.
The Reception
After their heartfelt ceremony, it was time to celebrate! Michele from I Do Weddings by Michele brought everything together seamlessly, ensuring the day flowed smoothly so Emma and Addison could truly soak in every moment. Her attention to detail, mindfulness of the timeline, and calm presence allowed everyone—from the couple to their families and guests—to relax and enjoy. Having an experienced coordinator like Michele is such a gift; she not only kept everything on track but also created space for the day to feel effortless and joyful. A good coordinator is truly invaluable, transforming what could be a stressful experience into a celebration filled with ease.
Guests enjoyed an understated yet elegant cake along with cupcakes by Cupcakes d’Amour—each one as beautiful as it was delicious. The evening was made even more meaningful with heartfelt toasts: Addison’s brothers shared words filled with joy and humor, while Emma’s sister and parents offered their own touching tributes. When her parents spoke, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room as they reminisced about their sweet daughter’s childhood and the journey that led her to meet Addison. Their joy and wholehearted acceptance of him was deeply moving, a true reflection of the love surrounding the couple. Later in the night, DJ Warcloud kept the energy high and the dance floor full, bringing everyone together for an unforgettable celebration. The evening wrapped up with a dazzling sparkler exit—Emma and Addison’s perfect grand farewell, surrounded by their loved ones glowing under the night sky.
The Details
Emma’s cascading bouquet—also created by VIIVI Floral Studio—was a true showstopper. With orchids, textured greenery, and delicate white blooms, it was the perfect blend of elegance and whimsy. Capturing the details of your venue space is an important and vital part of your wedding day story. The rustic charm of The Cotton Room was the perfect backdrop, adding warmth and character to every moment. Every little detail of the day, from the gown to the music, reflected who Emma and Addison are as a couple: classic, joyful, and full of life.
Final Thoughts
Emma and Addison’s wedding was a dream to photograph. I'm so grateful for their trust in letting me capture such a meaningful day—I hope these photos allow them to relive the joy, the beauty, and the love they felt over and over again!
